Tree Removal
If your tree is dangerous/heavily diseased, an obstruction to the development or property or aesthetics of the garden, then sometimes removal is the best option. You can always replant if you feel like it is something that will be missed.
Tree removals are performed using a variety of different techniques. Every site is different and needs a specific plan. Sectional dismantling with a rope and harness, felling from the ground, rigging/roping pieces down safely in awkward access are a large part of what we do.
All material can be processed into chips which can be removed and recycled by us or kept by you if desired (for your flower beds and paths). Some customers like to keep log wood for their woodburners. We can process it into logs for you if needed
Tree Pruning
If we aim to preserve the tree within the space, then pruning is a good option. It is all about compromise. Pruning can sometimes be trickier than removal depending on requirement, but trees (especially mature ones) are often what makes a garden feel special, so it is good to make the most of them.
Has your tree gotten too big for the space? Is it encroaching on the neighbour’s boundary too much? Or over a roof/telecom wires? Is it making the area gloomy or untidy? Are there damaged, hung up or dead/diseased-looking sections in the tree?
Care must be taken not to damage the health of the tree and to keep or even improve its shape. We always aim to work within the natural limits of the tree and sometimes this can mean waiting for a more appropriate time of the year. Tree pruning can be advantageous for fruit trees to improve yield also.
Tree Preservation Orders (TPO), Conservation Areas and Nesting
'It's my tree, and I'll cut it if I want to!'
Whilst we do understand this sentiment, it is important to be aware of council legislation that may affect tree work. Failure to comply with this can involve householders and contractors potentially being fined by the thousands.
We can help to check if you are in a conservation area or if you have TPOs on trees on your property. There is a council mapping website to check this.
'Can I cut a tree if it has a TPO or in a conservation area?'
Yes, with an application and the council does not object. You will need to ensure that the correct application to the council has been made. These need to specify exactly what kind of work is being done and to what trees and why.
Some customers are comfortable doing this themselves, but some use our help. We as professionals are required to comply with legislation and so cannot breach TPO / CA regulations.
Nesting birds can also restrict tree and hedge work. We are not allowed to knowingly disturb a nesting bird (or any other animal). Birds love to hide in secure and dense trees. Some of them love conifers for this reason, so bear that in mind! If we find a nest (prior to a visual inspection), then we must stop all work immediately and return after fledging. It is not illegal to work during the nesting season (this would be too difficult) but we absolutely need to be aware of the law. Sometimes cutting earlier (or later) is better. If your neighbour's boundary is onto farmland, then the legislation is even firmer.
Mobile Log Splitting
We offer mobile log splitting and firewood processing. Have I fallen a tree in a field or garden? Running a wooden yard and need some help to process arbitration waste or oversized timber? Give us a call, we can turn removed trees or harvested timber into usable firewood, which is much more cost-effective than buying processed firewood. Our hydraulic log splitter is very mobile. We work all across Yorkshire and beyond.
Hedge Maintenance & removal
We offer regular hedge trimming, removals, planting and hedge reductions. If your hedge needs refreshing or reclaiming from chaos, we’ll get it back under control.
Garden Clearance
